چکیده

The discovery of the extreme antiquity of specific minerals through radiometric dating (e.g., Strutt 1910), coupled with Norman L. Bowen’s recognition of a deterministic evolutionary sequence of silicate minerals in igneous rocks (Bowen 1915, 1928), implies that Earth’s crustal mineralogy has changed dramatically through more than 4.5 billion years of planetary history. Detailed examination of the mineralogical record has led to a growing realization that varied physical, chemical, and biological processes have resulted in a sequential increase in diversification of the mineral kingdom. This diversification has been accompanied by significant changes in the near-surface distribution, compositional range (including minor and trace elements), size, and morphology of minerals (Ronov et al. 1969; Nash et al. 1981; Zhabin 1981; Meyer 1985; Wenk and Bulakh 2004; Hazen et al. 2008, 2009, 2011). Variation in Earth’s mineralogical character thus reflects the tectonic, geochemical, and biological evolution of Earth’s near-surface environment (Bartley and Kah 2004; Hazen et al. 2009, 2012; Grew and Hazen 2010a,b; McMillan et al. 2010; Krivovichev 2010; Grew et al. 2011; Tkachev 2011).

Texture Evolution in Low Carbon Steel Fabricated by Multi-directional Forging of the Martensite Starting Structuree

It has been clarified that deformation and annealing of martensite starting structure can produce ultrafine-grained structure in low carbon steel.  This study aims to investigate the texture evolution and mechanical properties of samples with martensite structure deformed by two different forging processes. The martensitic steel samples were forged by plane strain compression and multi-directio...

Effect of Mineral Matter on Product Yield and Composition at Isothermal Pyrolysis of Turkish Oil Shales

This study was aimed to investigate the effect of mineral matter of Göynük oil shales (GOS) on pyrolysis and product evolution. Organic part was separated from mineral matter before pyrolysis in an isothermal pyrolysis reactor. In the demineralization step, carbonate, pyrite and silicates were removed from kerogen by using HCl, HNO3 and HF, respectively. Thereafter all samples were pyrolized in...

Nickel Oxide/Carbon Nanotubes as Active Hybrid Material for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Carbon nanotubes are of great interest due to their high surface area and rich edge sites, which are favorable for wide applications. Here, a simple and efficient routine is presented by decoration of multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) with nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles. The morphologies of NiO-MWCNT  were  investigated  by  using scanning  electron  microscope  (SEM)  and energydispersive X-...

Mineral Chemistry and metamorphic evolution of the Late Neoproterozoic metabasites of Do-Chah metamorphic - igneous complex (SE Shahrood)

Metapelites of the Do Chah complex (SE Shahrood) are composed of micaschist, garnet micaschist, chloritoid schist and garnet-bearing gneiss. In the highest degree of metamorphism, metapelites have been affected by partial melting, resulting as granitization. A significant part of these rocks, imposed by compressional tectonic regime and show typical evidence of plastic deformation and intensive...

Evolution of trees and mycorrhizal fungi intensifies silicate mineral weathering

Forested ecosystems diversified more than 350 Ma to become major engines of continental silicate weathering, regulating the Earth's atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration by driving calcium export into ocean carbonates. Our field experiments with mature trees demonstrate intensification of this weathering engine as tree lineages diversified in concert with their symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi. P...
